Who are Providers of Service under Medicare? What are the eligibility requirements? List five or more nonparticipating facilities that Medicare does NOT make payments to
What will be an ideal response?
Answer:
Providers of services and medical equipment suppliers under Medicare must meet all licensing requirements of the state in which they are located. To be a participating provider under the Medicare program, they must meet additional Medicare requirements before payments can be made for their services. All providers must bill Medicare for a patient with Medicare benefits regardless of that provider's participation in the program.
Medicare does not pay for the following care received in nonparticipating facilities:
• Hospital care
• Skilled nursing facility
• Home health agency
• Hospice
• Outpatient rehabilitation
• Dialysis facilities
• Ambulatory surgical centers
• Independent physical therapists
• Independent occupational therapists
• Clinical laboratories
• Portable x-ray suppliers
• Rural health clinics
