What will be an ideal response?

The Virgin Mary was viewed as an intercessor who would actively participate in a person’s salvation. Medieval theology was largely focused on the afterlife. Worshiping the Virgin was a natural interpretation of church dogma from the period. The fact that so many cathedrals were named Notre Dame, or Our Lady, is testament to the sincerity of this belief.
