Distinguish between normative age-graded, normative history-graded, and nonnormative
influences. Provide an example of each.
What will be an ideal response?
Normative age-graded influences affect most people and such biological, social, or
cognitive events are usually highly tied to age. Puberty, getting married, or retirement
could be considered such events or influences. Normative history-graded influences are
major societal events, such as wars or major societal changes that affect entire
generations of people. Nonnormative influences are rare events that affect a minority of
people, such as child abuse, or events that occur "off time", such as retiring at age 35.
