Discuss the trends of integration in U.S. immigration history.
What will be an ideal response?
The United States is moving away from the melting pot concept of assimilation. Today, there may no longer be a consensus about the cultural norms, religion, and behavior that define a U.S. culture. More recent immigrants experience less pressure to immediately learn fluent English and otherwise become Americanized than did earlier immigrants. U.S. residents today increasingly recognize their own immigrant roots, and as such, in the United States now, acculturation is considered primarily integration as opposed to assimilation, as it was previously.
