How could Sullivan’s theory interpret Brian’s “witching hour” and his subsequent falling asleep?
What will be an ideal response?
Tammy did not understand Brian’s needs correctly, resulting in additional crying and anxiety on Brian’s part. Tammy’s anxiety was communicated to Brian through empathy which also contributed to his discomfort and crying. Brian finally cried himself to sleep, which is essentially what Sullivan meant by somnolent detachment.
