Why is it useful to have different methodologies to study the effects of stress, happiness, etc?

The use of different methodologies allows us to study the same concept from different perspectives so we can gain increased confidence in our conclusions when the different approaches point in the same direction. In addition, different approaches can help us answer slightly different questions associated with the concept of interest.
