What is pretexting? Provide an example.

What will be an ideal response?

Social engineering pretexting is creating an invented scenario (the pretext) to persuade the victim to perform an action or provide confidential information. Pretexters use different tactics to acquire information. In one example a pretexter might call a person and claim to be from a firm that conducts surveys to ask what seems to be a series of harmless questions. After finishing that call the pretexter then calls a company with whom that person conducts business. The pretexter then claims to be that person and pretends that he has forgotten his account number or needs information about his account history.
