Describe how you would apply a stretch to the hamstring muscles using contract—relax—stretch (CRS)

Explain the recipient's position, your technique, and what you would say to the recipient as you lead him or her through the stretch (include the role of breathing).
What will be an ideal response?

Answer: For this hamstring stretch the recipient is lying supine, with his or her straight leg off of the table (flexed at the hip). I am facing the head of the table while holding the flexed leg with two hands. I will stretch the hamstrings by gently pushing the leg further into flexion to its limit. Before I apply the stretch, I ask the recipient to push against my hands (extending the leg) with about 80% of his or her strength (to contract the hamstrings) and hold for about 10 seconds. Afterward, I say "relax," "take a deep breath," "slowly exhale." While the recipient is exhaling, I apply the stretch.
