What will be an ideal response?

- Fading away occurs when the two partners just drift further and further apart.
- Sudden death occurs as an abrupt and unplanned ending of a relationship. We are not prepared for it, and we have not had a chance to reach closure.
- Incrementalism is the systematic progression through each of the de-escalation stages and at each stage, the relationship reaches a threshold at which point the relationship moves down another level. If and when another threshold is reached, the relationship de-escalates to individualization, and finally to separation.
