• In the mid-1960s, George Harrison of the Beatles became a student of Shankar. As a result of his studies with the Indian sitar master, Harrison created a series of "finely crafted Indian-based songs ranging from ‘Love Me To' to ‘The Inner Light'" and others. John Lennon—also of the Beatles—showed Indian influences in his use of "Sanskrit phrases, drones, exotic riffs, and Indian instruments."
