The romantic truism “to know her is to love her” seems to contradict the relational adage “familiarity breeds contempt.” Given the principles of social penetration theory, can you think of a way both statements might be true?

What will be an ideal response?

Answer: The statement “to understand her is to like her” is just suggesting that the a lot of you discover out about her the more you’ll grow to love and appreciate who she is. The statement “familiarity breeds contempt” suggesting that the a lot of familiar you become the more contempt you will be.

I don't think either statement contradict one another as a result of you'll be able to love somebody and be contempt at the same time. perhaps to likes somebody is to be contempt. So, both the statements are true.
