Parents of people with personality disorders were likely to have extreme parenting styles, use guilt or shame to control their children, and/or not express affection. People with personality disorders had parents who were emotionally cold and distant. The more negative experiences children have, the more likely they are to develop a personality disorder as an adult. Knowing all this, Marissa and José could be mindful of their parenting behaviors as they raise their child.
