Ans: Social stratification refers to how a society categorizes its people into groups based on socioeconomic factors such as wealth, income, race, education, gender, occupation, ethnicity, and social status. Social stratification is based on four basic principles. The first principle is social stratification is a trait of society and not a reflection of individual differences. The second principle is that social stratification carries over a generation to the next generation. The third principle is social stratification is generally universal but variable. The last principle of social stratification is that it involves not just inequality but also beliefs.
