Specific ways that a medical assistant can take proactive measures in regard to emergency preparedness are as follows: making sure that the medical office has various emergency preparedness plans detailing office protocol for certain disasters; maintaining certifications for CPR and first aid, so that in the event of an emergency the medical assistant can offer greater assistance; and attending workshops or seminars in emergency preparedness, which will help the medical assistant in being prepared in the event of a disaster.
