Discuss the risk factors for adolescent suicide.

What will be an ideal response?

Mood disorders, conduct disorder problems, and substance abuse all increase the risk of both nonfatal and fatal suicide attempts. If the adolescent has two or more of these risk factors, the risk for completion of suicide is extremely high. Increased availability and access to firearms, exposure to celebrity suicide, and social contagions are recognized as more recent risk factors. Antidepressant medications slightly increase the risk as well.
