Explain cognitive appraisal of emotions. Suggest an example of a situation in which different appraisals might lead to different emotional experiences. Describe how you have used cognitive reappraisal in the past to regulate your emotional experience.

What will be an ideal response?

Cognitive appraisal is your personal interpretation of a situation. As an example, some people feel a great deal of anxiety when they go to the dentist. This is due to the fact that their past visits to the dentist have been uncomfortable or perhaps even painful. However, someone may be able to change their response to these visits by reappraising and thinking about how the visit is just 30 minutes out of a long life, so it is just a temporary event.
