In order to make the sample representative of the entire student body at the college, your sample should be chosen randomly (random selection) to ensure that every member of the population has an equal chance of being in the sample. If a difference is found in favor of the new method, then tests of statistical significance would be used to determine how often these results could have occurred by chance alone. If your results could only have occurred by chance five times or less out of 100, then the difference between the two groups was significant, and you have data to support using the new method of instruction.
