What style and classification of prototype will be the best fit for your project/team, and why?

What will be an ideal response?

There are two primary styles associated with game prototypes: horizontal and vertical – which are associated with depth vs. breadth. The high-level horizontal prototype involves taking one element out of the GDD and building it out to explore how it needs to be developed. The more complex vertical prototype involves multiple layers of a project rather than just a single layer – allowing developers to focus on various elements, including gameplay. The classification of a prototype is associated with a variety of functions: throwaway prototypes are short-lived tools that are thrown together with a minimum of visual assets, with a primary focus on functionality; evolutionary prototypes are designed from the beginning to serve as the core of a product, so the code is generally robust; and incremental prototypes comprise a stack of evolutionary prototypes that are built separately and combined at the end.
