What is the progression for infants to learn how to eat solid foods?
What will be an ideal response?
Cultures vary in when solid food is introduced. First foods are mashed, pureed or prechewed, depending on the culture. As new foods are introduced, infants will typically gag and spit out the food. This is not because of rejection, but because their gag reflex is still quite active. The ability to chew and swallow develops after the age of 6 months.
