What are the security problems related to supporting remote access in wireless gateways?

What will be an ideal response?

Remote access allows for the wireless gateway to be configured remotely over the Internet. Entering a URL that contains both the IP address of the wireless gateway as well as the port number, such as http://72.150.140.144:8080, allows a remote user to access the configuration settings (after entering the username and password).

An incorrect configuration would enable this setting and allow an attacker to attempt to break into the wireless gateway or access point. Unlike operating system authentication in which it may be possible to provide a limited number of attempts at guessing a password before the account is disabled, a wireless gateway will permit an unlimited number of attempts to break the password.
