Is it necessary to be able to think at the level offormal operational thought in order to graduate
from college?
What will be an ideal response?
It depends on many factors. For instance, abstract thought is required for many courses in
math and science as well as philosophy and English. But some classes only require that students
memorize facts to do well. Other students could graduate if they cheated or found another way to get
around the need for abstract thinking. So in some cases a student might be able to pass the required
coursework in order to graduate. But many collegelevel courses do require abstract thought in order
to excel.
