What will be an ideal response?
Students should first be able to define culture as “the set of distinctive spiritual, material, intellectual and emotional features of society or a social group, that encompasses, not only art and literature, but lifestyles, ways of living together, value systems, traditions and beliefs,” as defined by UNESCO. Then students should be able to name three out of five possible aspects of identity, which may include (1) geographic boundaries; (2) basic needs for water, food, or shelter; (3) means of communication, religion, and societal practices; (4) shared experiences and indigenous traits; or (5) by defining the “other,” as groups begin to encounter other groups.
