Educational outcome studies are often hard to conduct because of the time and cost involved in running them. One alternative to running such a longitudinal study, is to conduct it as a cross-sectional study

What would be the advantage and disadvantage of each method?
What will be an ideal response?

Longitudinal: Advantage: can follow the same cohort over time; disadvantage: students move, drop out, expensive, time consuming.
Cross-sectional: Advantage: faster and less expensive to complete; disadvantage: generalizing across subjects to paint one picture.
