Explain a speaking situation in which each of the following would be the most useful type of presentational aid (you should describe one speaking situation per presentational aid): (A) Chalkboard/whiteboard (B) Objects/props (C) PowerPoint/Prezi
What will be an ideal response?
The best answers will describe a situation in which each type of aid is the best choice, such as:
1. (A) A speaker should use the chalkboard/whiteboard in a speaking situation where audience participation and collaboration with the speaker is vital, such as the president of a campus group presenting on ways to increase club funds.
2. (B) A speaker should use objects or props in situations where engaging sight and/or sound alone would not be effective. In some cases, engaging the senses of touch, smell, and/or taste would make the speaker most effective, such as bringing a freshly popped bowl of buttery popcorn to set the olfactory mood for a speech about hunger in the U.S.
3. (C) A speaker should use PowerPoint or Prezi if s/he has many visual aids to present and if the room is computer-equipped. Using these programs allows speakers to move between presentational aids (and include "silence" without wasting time, and these programs provide speakers the option to create a more visually dynamic presentation that may be achieved, at least by the average person, on paper alone.
