Communicating Information—nonverbal communication allows us to interpret what is meant by verbal communication by repeating, emphasizing, reinforcing, contradicting, or substituting for a message.
Regulating Interaction—nonverbal behaviors help to manage turn-taking during conversations.
Expressing and Managing Intimacy—describes how individuals use nonverbal behavior to convey attraction and closeness.
Establishing Social Control—individuals use nonverbal behavior to exercise influence over other people.
Service-task functions—interactions of this kind signal close involvement between people in impersonal relationships and contacts (i.e., Doctor–Patient relationships).
