Explain how party performance and partisanship affect public views of policy in the United States.

What will be an ideal response?

Americans tend to shift from party to party based on party performance. When one party does well on a policy, Americans tend to switch their allegiance to the better performing party.  However, strong partisans do not react the same way. They see things as improving when their party is in power, and declining when they are out of power, regardless of the circumstances.
