Carlin is a 62-year-old woman whose sister, Gail, recently had a cerebral infarction. Fearing what her sister had experienced, Carlin made an appointment for a physical with her family doctor. Carlin's doctor found a carotid bruit on auscultation, and ordered additional tests to rule out carotid stenosis. Doppler ultrasound was highly suspicious for left-sided carotid stenosis. It was confirmed

on angio CT. The artery was 85% occluded. The patient is here for an endarterectomy. Patient has a history of thyroid cancer, which was successfully treated nine years ago. She also has hypertension and arthritis of the right elbow.
