What are the best food sources of calcium?
What will be an ideal response?
Dairy products have the highest concentration of calcium, and also the most bioavailable calcium. Fortified foods, such as calcium fortified orange juice and nut milks are also a highly bioavailable source or calcium. Canned fish with bones, such as herring, salmon, and sardines, are also sources of calcium if the bones are eaten, however this is usually not a practical source of calcium in the general US diet. Dark green leafy vegetables such as turnip greens, mustard greens, and collards are also sources of bioavailable calcium. Other leafy green vegetables, such as spinach, chard, and beet greens are not good calcium sources because they contain oxalic acid, which combines with calcium to form an insoluble complex, reducing calcium absorption.
