Explain the statement, "Language is subjective."
What will be an ideal response?
Words have no meaning or reality apart from the person using them and responding
to them. People may ascribe various denotative and connotative meanings to words. Thus, the
authority of words resides in people, not in words themselves. Meaning can also be conveyed
without words, as through gestures and body language. Other aspects of subjectivity include
the notion that no words are inherently good or bad, and that words and their meanings often
change as society changes.
