Review the issues raised in the chapter and relate them to the Faust legend
Critics of biological advances such as the genome project and philosophical ideas associated with the concepts of posthumanism often cite the character of Faust (or Dr. Faustus) in order to show how one can be led astray by the unquenchable thirst for knowledge. Dr. Faustus is a scholar so determined to possess more and more knowledge concerning the secrets of life that he is willing to trade his soul to the devil for it. Faust is happy with his choice until the devil comes for payment. In the same way, we may first be happy with what our knowledge will bring us but might be devastated when we must face the changes we have made. Like Icarus, we may fly too high and our wings will melt.
