Describe how the jigsaw classroom technique fosters cooperation and interdependence in the cooperative classroom
What will be an ideal response?
Answer: Each student in the jigsaw classroom is assigned a part of the whole lesson to teach to other members of the group. The teacher is no longer the expert; other students are. In order to do well on individual assessments of their learning, students are motivated to help fellow students to communicate the information completely and clearly. If the fellow student is having problems, other students learn that they can succeed by becoming patient and good questioners. The better they become at asking questions and helping the fellow student, the more that student reveals what he or she really knows, and negative stereotypes are revised or abandoned. This leads to increased liking and increased empathy.
