The dental team should be aware that problems in the oral cavity can affect nutritional status as well as understanding that diet can affect oral health. Therefore, it is important for the dental team to conduct dietary risk assessment, provide individualized education, and initiate referral to the appropriate healthcare providers (physician, registered dietitian) when appropriate. According to the ADA and the ADHA, members of the dental team should:
