What can be the disadvantages of the use of standard operating procedures (SOPs) when it comes to policy implementation?

What will be an ideal response?

When new policies are adopted, organizations can persist in their use of older SOPs and fail to adopt the new initiative. Failure to update SOPs can also lead to a failure to adapt when problems and needs of the clientele being served changes. SOPs are established for dealing with routine items. When a crisis emerges, SOPs generally like the needed mechanisms to respond. They are more useful for day-to-day procedures. Overall SOPs are helpful in implementation of established programs but can be barriers to change and the implementation of new programs.
