Outline the origins and passage of the Twenty-Fifth Amendment.
What will be an ideal response?
The Twenty-Fifth Amendment clarifies the course of action taken when a president is alive but unable to carry out the responsibilities of the office. Ratified in 1967, it codified procedures for dealing with an incapacitated president. When a president is incapable of relinquishing office, the vice president and a majority of the cabinet notify Congress, and the vice president becomes the acting president. If questions arise as to whether the president is fit to reassume the duties of office, a two-thirds vote is required for the acting president to remain.
