Explain the process and function of myelination in the nervous system
What will be an ideal response?
Myelination in neurons increases the speed of signals between neurons. It allows
children to think and react much more quickly than toddlers can. It is helpful in
recognition tasks, but invaluable in processing several thoughts in succession.
Myelination is especially strong in the auditory and visual areas of the brain
accompanying experience in these areas. The functions of memory and reflection
are aided by myelination, as well.
