How might you explain the concept of nutrient-density and caloric-density to a patient?

What will be an ideal response?

Comparing different food choices is a good way to illustrate these two important concepts. For example, examine the difference between an orange, and an orange popsicle. An orange contains multiple important nutrients, such as vitamin C, fiber, folate, and potassium, while being low in overall calories. This makes it nutrient-dense but not calorie-dense. An orange popsicle does not contain these important nutrients, and has a high amount of calories, likely from sugar. This makes it calorie-dense but not nutrient dense.
