Figure 5-23 does not have very good contrast.

a. What contrast is already present?

b. How many levels of priority are there on the page? There is certainly a detail level. What other levels are there?

c. How can you make the existing contrast be even more emphatic?

d. How can you adjust the existing contrast to support the number of levels you identified in part B?

e. In addition to emphasizing the existing contrast, are there any other organizational principles you can add to show the distinction in the various levels you have identified? Describe what you would do

a. There is a contrast in emphasis of the text. The title and paragraph headings are bold, and the paragraph or detail text is in normal font.

b. There are three levels altogether. The lowest level is the detail level comprising the text in the paragraph body. The intermediate level comprises the paragraph headings and the highest level is the title.

c. The contrast will be more emphatic if the size of the font is increased.

d. Supporting the three levels of priority requires three sizes of text. Note: Using an

tag for the title and an

tag for the paragraph headings would create three visual levels of priority that would match the priority level of the content.

e. Both proximity and alignment could help delineate the three levels of content. Adding some space after the title and after each paragraph would be an example of using proximity. Another possibility would be to indent the body of the paragraph to make the paragraph heading stand out.

Note: When grading, consider awarding full credit if the student supplies one of either proximity or alignment, and then goes on to describe how to apply the principle.
