Answer: One contraindication for LF is lymphedema, which is properly treated with the more comprehensive complete/complex decongestive therapy. Other contraindications are infection, thrombosis or blood clots, phlebitis, pitting edema, and major heart problems such as congestive heart failure. Caution and care should be taken with clients who have conditions that can be worsened by increased fluid circulation such as kidney disease, asthma, thyroid conditions, and menstruation. While cancer is not necessarily a contraindication, the practitioner should discuss LF with a client's physician before performing it.
