Could Monsanto have avoided public controversy over the Terminator without undermining its own business interests and values?

With the enormous sum of money that went into the research and development of
the Terminator, public opinion research would have been a wise investment.
Considering the depth of feeling over the financial and environmental impact of
the new technology, an accepting environment for this product may be a long time
coming. This would have been useful to know before jumping into the fray.
