Absolutism is when a person believes there is a true right and wrong or a single moral standard that applies to everyone. A relativist takes into account situations, individuals, and cultures and believes that different moral standards might be appropriate depending on the circumstances. So the major difference is that an absolutist sees ethical situations as rigidly defined where a relativist sees exceptions and shades of gray.
