List four different gender role identities identified by Bem. Give an example of a traditional gender role identity and an example of a nontraditional gender role identity. Explain how these roles affect self-esteem

What will be an ideal response?

The four categories are masculine, feminine, androgynous, and undifferentiated. Traditional examples would include men who act and feel masculine and women who act and feel feminine. Androgyny and undifferentiated are, by definition, non-traditional and the examples are many. Undifferentiated individuals may feel a sense of identity diffusion and suffer low self-esteem. Androgyny seems to adversely affect girls more than boys and those who fit into traditional roles typically do not have problems with self-esteem within the context of gender role.
