List and briefly explain the three ways Greenhaus and Powell say the work life balance can positively impact individuals

What will be an ideal response?

First, the balance of roles may be beneficial for an individual's mental and physical
health. Research has indicated that participating in a variety of roles can contribute to a person's
happiness, satisfaction, and perceived quality of life.
Second, individuals who participate in both work and family roles are buffered from distress one particular role. For example, without a family to focus on, an individual who has had a
particularly negative day at work might go home and continue to focus on that negative
experience/ whereas another individual is able to go home and be distracted by positive
interactions with their spouse and/or children. The reverse may be true as well. Work can afford
spouses or parents with an opportunity to solve problems and interact on a professional level in
ways that they are unable to do so with their family members.
Finally, "experiences in one role can produce positive experiences and outcomes in the other
role" (Greenhaus & Powell, 2005, p. 73). Participation in one role can help an individual become
more successful in another role. An employee may learn interactional skills at work that
improve family interactions as well or vice versa. A parent may learn patience that can in turn
translate into patience with co-workers or employees.
