Discuss Masters' and Johnson's findings regarding the male and female sexual response phases, indicating how these phases are similar and how they are different

What will be an ideal response?

Answer will include that the order, intensity, and many of the physical changes are similar with the main differences being in the rate at which males and females pass through each phase. For example, there are marked physical changes in both males and females in the excitement phase with physical changes and subjective feelings of arousal intensifying in the plateau phase. However, some women actually skip the plateau phase. For women, orgasm involves three to ten muscular contractions of the vagina, uterus, and related structures with rarely a small amount of fluid being released from the urethra. In the mature male, orgasm is usually accompanied by ejaculation. Males then enter the resolution phase of lowered sexual tension followed by a short refractory period during which a second orgasm is impossible. Women may also enter the resolution phase, but about 15 percent of all women return to the plateau phase and may have one or more additional orgasms. Only rarely is the male refractory period immediately followed by a second orgasm. Both orgasm and resolution in the male usually do not last as long as they do for females.
