The four leadership styles are as follows: 1) Traits approach – leaders possess certain desirable qualities or characteristics, such as intelligence, self-confidence, integrity, and sociability. 2) Functional approach – leaders perform tasks for the group, such as setting goals, giving direction, or summarizing progress. 3) Transformational approach (also called "visionary" or "charismatic" approach) – leaders attract, inspire, and empower members, based on personal charisma. 4) situational approach –leaders shift their emphasis between task accomplishment and member satisfaction, depending on the situation. Leadership skills include the following: 1) prepare members and start interaction; 2) build group cohesiveness; 3) maintain effective interaction; 4) guide members through the agenda; 5) ensure member satisfaction; 6) empower members; 7) encourage ongoing evaluation and improvement; 8) manage conflict; and 9) mentor members.
