Explain the difference between spanned and striped volumes

Spanned volumes write data across two or more hard drives but write the data on one hard drive until it is full. Then data is written to the second hard drive. A spanned volume has one drive letter even though two hard drives are used. With striped volumes, data is written to both hard drives consistently.
