What are the pros and cons of the new Fair Trade Movement?

What will be an ideal response?

It has aimed to deal with the major social and environmental problems that have resulted from global trade. It has attempted to establish a high ethical standard for the trading of goods. It promotes fair prices paid to farmers and workers, requires safe working conditions, prohibits child labor and promotes free association. Unfortunately it has had some negative consequences for non-certified producers of the same good by over-supplying and driving the price down. It also will never really be adequate to make a big difference in the lives of most people in the developing world.
