Special indents include hanging and first line. A first line indent, which is often required in research papers, indents the first line of each paragraph by a certain distance (usually 1/2"). A hanging indent, in which the first line meets the left margin, but all subsequent lines in the paragraph are indented a certain distance, is often used in bibliographies.
