* The id is concerned with obtaining pleasure, the ego develops a realistic plan for obtaining pleasure, and the superego seeks perfection and punishes behavior, which violated society's rules as learned through parents.
* The id and superego are constantly trying to pull against one another, while the ego tries to find an acceptable middle road.
