When does self-regulation control or fail to control aggression?
What will be an ideal response?
Answer:
Self-regulation requires cognitive effort. When people have other demands on their effort, they might not be able to control an aggressive response. For example, resisting temptation can deplete our resources and result in more aggressive responding. Individuals with positive implicit attitudes toward regulating their emotions may be able to restrain aggression with ease. Others can think about prosocial thoughts as a means to avoid aggressive responding. The more readily people can bring to mind prosocial thoughts during a provoking incident the less likely they will be have aggressively. Non aggressive models might also decrease aggressive responding.
