Designers of UAVs are trying to increase the autonomy of UAVs through machine learning. Because the drones often operate in rugged and remote areas, they sometimes lose contact with the ground control station. This means that the drone has to have a built-in autopilot. At a minimum, the drone's autopilot should be able to bring the drone to a place where it can reestablish contact with the ground control station, and it should do so without crashing the drone
